Return to dystopia in this official concept art for Blade Runner 2

Denis Villeneuve (SICARIO) is bringing the sequel to BLADE RUNNER to life, which sees the return of Harrison Ford. He’ll be joined by the likes of Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas
Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista, among others. While the plot is still under wraps, we do know the story will take place decades after the first film. Entertainment Weekly has been delivering some mean exclusive pictures this week, and they’ve also got a couple pieces of the official concept art with a few words from Villeneuve to accompany it.

I remember the opening sequence perfectly. That note of music; seeing Los Angeles in 2019; that smog; that darkness. It’s really the movie that gave birth to my desire to become a director.

According to Villeneuve, the sequel features an even more f*cked-up climate than the first film. The ocean, rain, and snow is all toxic. He goes on to say that the vehicle pictured in the artwork is a type of snow blower that hovers over the streets to destroy the snow. As with the first film, I’m hoping that the world created for the sequel will be just as vast and enveloping.

BLADE RUNNER 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO is scheduled to hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
