First The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part trailer reassembles the whole gang

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back in 2014, THE LEGO MOVIE became something no one ever thought a movie about tiny plastic bricks would ever become: the most surprising hit of the year. Making hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide and earning rave reviews, LEGO MOVIE won everyone’s hearts with a quirky cast of characters, a hilarious sense of self-awareness, and a heart-warming story. Now the sequel is finally on the way, and the first trailer is here showing all your favorite characters like Emmet (Chris Pratt) Lucy/Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and, of course, Batman (Will Arnett). The only problem is, they're living in a world where everything is so NOT awesome. Did a MAD MAX: FURY ROAD line of LEGOs come out and we just didn't notice?  Take a look above!

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.

This time around Mike Mitchell (TROLLS) takes over directing duties from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, both of whom stayed on to produce. The rest of the cast features plenty of returning and new faces, including Nick Offerman (MetalBeard), Alison Brie (Princess Unikitty), Charlie Day (Benny the Spaceman), Channing Tatum (Superman), Jonah Hill (Green Lantern), Tiffany Haddish (Queen Whatevra Wanabi), Stephanie Beatriz (Sweet Mayhem) and Arturo Castro (Ice Cream Cone).

Even though their world is in shambles the movie still looks to have the charm and wit of the original, and with the story of trying to prove why you're special even when the world is going to hell sounding pretty timely. As well, it's nice that even though Batman is probably the fan favorite (and considering he got his own movie) that the trailer still puts the spotlight on the ever-positive Emmet and the proactive Lucy. Putting all that together and taking into account the original was one of my favorite movies of 2014,  February 2019 is starting to look better and better.
