Shane Black says his Predator will be a sequel not a reboot

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Following yesterday's news that director Shane Black will be remaking the classic 1987 action flick PREDATOR, Black has come out to correct the report suggesting that it is a reboot. He spoke to Collider and explained that his PREDATOR movie will be an "inventive sequel"; not a reboot. Black went on to say he and screenwriter Fred Dekker value the "rich mythology" that's already been introduced in previous Predator films.

Black said in the interview that he doesn't like reboots generally, but can "really get behind inventive sequels", noting that he likes "the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button." Well color me surprised; I should have known that someone as inventive and cool as Shane Black would care enough to continue the legacy rather than make a new one. So the movie is nearly thirty years old, if you haven't seen Predator at this point, it's your lose.

Black is one the best writers out there and has proven himself to be a skilled director too (IRON MAN 3). When he teams up with his friend Dekker for this one, I'm sure it will serve new viewers and gain the trust of old fans of the franchise.

Should the sequel care about the ALIEN VS. PREDATOR movies?
