High-concept fantasy series Three Dark Crowns is coming to Fox

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

We've still got some time until HBO's GAME OF THRONES draws to its inevitably bloody conclusion, but one has to wonder what will then scratch that entertainment itch for fans of swords, sorcery, and high-fantasy action? Well, it could very well be that Shawn Levy, his 21 Laps Entertainment label, and Fox's THREE DARK CROWNS will answer the call.

Hot off of acquiring the rights to A PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE VAMPIRE UPRISING, Fox plans to add a series featuring magically gifted triplet queens who attempt to destroy one another in a battle for the crown to their roster of forthcoming shows. As it stands, THREE DARK CROWNS, which is published by Harper Teen Press, is the first in a planned four volume series written by the bestselling author Kendare Blake. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Harper Teen Press, eh? Okay, so maybe the GAME OF THRONES bit at the top of this article was a bit of a stretch. That being said, I've not read the book, so who knows, right?

Levy will produce the series with Dan Levine, while Natalie Lehmann will lock it all down for 21 Laps.

Alright, I've no idea if this is going to be any good, but I am always down to check out a show that features magic, betrayal, and a fight for dominion over mystical territories. If the effects hold, and the acting is up to snuff, this might be worth tuning in for. Considering that 21 Laps produced the outstanding Oscar-nominated sci-fi film ARRIVAL, I'm more than willing to remain optimistic until proven otherwise.

By the way, Denis Villeneuve's ARRIVAL is availble on Digital, DVD, and Blu-Ray formats right now, so watch it!
