Jude Law will play Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts sequel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The FANTASTIC BEASTS movie did great at the box office and got pretty good reviews, so the sequel is naturally coming at us fast. With the sequel news came theories about who would play a young Albus Dumbledore, and now we have the answer!

Variety got the scoop that none other Jude Law will be playing the famous wizard in the sequel. Word is he will be playing the wizard before he became Headmaster of Hogwarts, back when he was a Transfiguration professor . Law will be in KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD this May, another Warner Bros. production, and he was also Dr. John Watson in SHERLOCK HOLMES for the studio. The first movie featured Johnny Depp as another famous wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, and both he and Dumbledore have serious issues with each other, so the two will probably go head-to-head at some point.

As for the casting Law certainly has the charm and wit that a young Dumbledore has, and though he may not have the sage wisdom Michael Gambon or Richard Harris brought to the role he can certainly bring a cockiness the character would have had in his young(ish) years. So, in short, I can get behind this. Law has proven himself time and again so I think he's earned such an iconic role to get a crack at. No word yet on other details about the movie, but I think we'll have a magical time with Law. I…I know.

Stay tuned for more details, and catch Law in KING ARTHUR on May 12.
