Insane new red-band trailer and poster for Filth, starring James McAvoy, Imogen Poots, and Jim Broadbent

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The resounding thought I'm left with after seeing each new trailer for FILTH is this: I need to see this movie. I don't know if it's just the sick, depraved lunacy or the outlandish, crazy performances that sell me, but ultimately it just looks like a lot of bloody good fun. James McAvoy as a corrupt cop struggling with addiction (of many kinds, it seems) looks to be having the time of his life here and this new red-band trailer shows many hints of stylish madness that will likely compare this to TRAINSPOTTING, especially since both films are based on books by Irvine Welsh. Either way, my thoughts are the same: I need to see this movie.

Get filthy:

Here's the synopsis:

Scheming Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Enlisted to solve a brutal murder and threatened by the aspirations of his colleagues, including Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell), Bruce sets about ensuring their ruin, right under the nose of unwitting Chief Inspector Toal. As he turns his colleagues against one another by stealing their wives and exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control. His past is slowly catching up with him, and a missing wife, a crippling drug habit and suspicious colleagues start to take their toll on his sanity. The question is: can he keep his grip on reality long enough to disentangle himself from the filth?

FILTH, starring James McAvoy, Imogen Poots, Jamie Bell, Jim Broadbent, and Eddie Marsan does not have a U.S. release date as of yet, but is slated to open in the UK on October 4, 2013 and Germany on October 17, 2013. Stay tuned for a U.S. release date.
