Will A&E’s Occult be the next X-Files or Fringe? Michael Bay and James Wong hope so

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With FRINGE set to leave the airwaves in a few months, fans may find their next supernatural prodecural coming from A&E.

The network, which is also set to air the PSYCHO prequel series BATES’ MOTEL, will be bringing OCCULT to series from producers Michael Bay and James Wong. The show follows a very familiar storyline. According to Deadline, the plot centers on an FBI agent who returns from administrative leave after going off the deep end while investigating his wife’s disappearance. Eager to be back on the job, he is paired with an agent with her own complicated backstory who specializes in the occult. Together, they will solve cases for the newly formed occult crimes task force.

Sounds like it could be decent, but it will all depend on seeing the pilot. Both THE X-FILES and FRINGE had phenomenal pilots that setup long runs for both shows. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes also has the upcoming pirate series on Starz, BLACK SAILS. Wong was a former writer and producer on THE X-FILES, THE LONE GUNMEN, MILLENNIUM, THE EVENT, and AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

As a fan of both FRINGE and THE X-FILES, I find it difficult to have faith in a Michael Bay production, but the inclusion of James Wong does give me a little hope. What do you think? Does OCCULT have the potential to be a hit?
