Game of Thrones creators to write/produce a new series of Star Wars films

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Oh snap! It looks as if Rian Johnson isn't the only one to be developing his own series of Star Wars spinoff films, as it's just been announced that GAME OF THRONES creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will write and produce their own unique set of thematic adventures set in a galaxy far, far away.

Set apart from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI), both Benioff and Weiss are poised to present a Star Wars universe unlike anything we've ever seen on the big screen.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

For the moment, there are no release dates set for the new films.

Please, allow me to express what we're all thinking … Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa …..! The potential of this announcement knows no bounds. Do you think Benioff and Weiss will present a more mature set of Star Wars stories, filled with blood and jaw-dropping carnage? Or, will they aim to present something more in-line with the FORCE AWAKENS and THE LAST JEDI chapters of the series? Let us know what you're thinking in the comments section below!
