Ben Affleck to lead Triple Frontier drama alongside a star-studded cast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Grab yourself some party poppers and break out the champagne, people, because the long-gestating drama project known as TRIPLE FRONTIER is finally moving ahead over at Netflix, next week! In a recent development, Ben Affleck has rejoined the ensemble cast, of which includes Oscar IsaacCharlie HunnamPedro PascalGarrett Hedlund and Adria Arjona.

As the story goes, the TRIPLE FRONTIER venture was thought to be K.I.A. after Ben Affleck withdrew from the drama for personal reasons amidst seeking treatment for his struggles with sobriety. To be clear, this was back when the project was set to star Affleck's brother, Casey, and LUKE CAGE star Mahershala Ali. One thing led to another and both Casey and Mahershala exited the project citing scheduling conflicts with other projects. Ben Affleck however, did not abandon the lofty endeavor, but instead placed his participation on-hold as he needed time to concentrate on his personal health. Now that the JUSTICE LEAGUE actor is feeling much better, Affleck has recently been spotted on a beach in Oahu, where he is training with the project's other cast members. It would seem that with so many pieces falling into place, filming will begin on the J.C. Chandor-directed drama on March 26th.

The question you're probably asking yourself now is: What is TRIPLE THREAT all about? Well, as the logline tells it: Loyalties are tested when five friends reunite to take down a South American drug lord, unleashing a chain of unintended consequences.

According to Deadline, Netflix film head Scott Stuber has acted as something of a champion for the project while working with producer Charels Roven and his Atlas Entertainment to keep the venture from going the way of the dodo. The problem that the team has now is the title; which is attached to the thriller that Mark Boal penned several years ago for THE HURT LOCKER-director Kathryn Bigelow. You see, the project was called TRIPLE THREAT because of its setting in the infamous border zone with Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge. However, that area is no longer considered to be dangerous by today's standards. In fact, folks often visit the location as a part of their vacationing shenangans. To compensate, Chandor is now inspecting the script, though the location will still be in relation to the Brazilian border. Filming will take place in Oahu as well as in Colombia and California.

Phew! Boy am I glad we've sorted all of that out. What do you think of TRIPLE FRONTIER's potential? What do you think the new title should be? Does the ensemble cast arrangement excite you? Are you stoked to hear that Affleck is out of rehab and feeling much better? Did you forget that this project even existed before we brought it up today?
