Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars film titled Rogue One; Ep. VIII hits in May 2017

Starting this December, we’re going to get 3 Star Wars films in less than two years, so buckle up! Just recently announced is that the Gareth Edwards (GODZILLA) spin-off has been given an official title: ROGUE ONE. The concept for the story came from John Knoll, the Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. The script, as previously reported, will be penned by Chris Weitz (CINDERELLA, ABOUT A BOY). No other plot points have been shared, except for the fact that Felicity Jones (THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING) has been the first official person to join the cast.

All speculation about the plot has previously pointed towards a group of bounty hunters. However, Rogue One is the callsign for the leader of Rogue Squadron, which is the elite starfighter group for the Rebel Alliance. Whether or not bounty hunters will be a factor, we’ll have to wait and see. Also confirmed is that the Rian Johnson (LOOPER) written/directed STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII will be released in May of 2017, returning the “official” Star Wars movies to the month they usually open. Now how do you like them space apples?

Gareth Edwards‘ ROGUE ONE will start shooting this summer in London and will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
