The first official trailer for Birth of the Dragon combos its way online

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

One of my absolute favorite things to do with my group of friends is to find and watch martial arts films. For us, there's something truly exhilarating about viewing some of the silver screen's best and most badass masters of body, mind, and fist. Be it Bruce Lee, Donnie Yen, Tony Ja, Jackie Chan or Po, the Kung Fu Panda, all are welcome to join in the good times fueled by honor, revenge, and fancy footwork.

Today, we've got the first official trailer for BIRTH OF THE DRAGON. Directed by George Nolfi, and written by Stephen J. Rivele And Christopher Wilkinson, BIRTH OF THE DRAGON is set against the backdrop of 1960s San Francisco, is a modern take on the classic movies that Bruce Lee was known for. Taking its inspiration from the epic and still controversial showdown between an up-and-coming Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man – a battle that gave birth to a legend, BIRTH OF DRAGON will do its best to recreate the lead up to that particular milestone in martial arts history.

You can watch the ass-kicking trailer below:

The film will star Phillip Ng, Xia Yu, Billy Magnussen, Jin Xing, Jingjing Qu, and Simon Yin as they each take instruction from Corey Yuen – the project's martial arts supervisor.

A-yup, this film will definitely be making an appearance when I host one of our Martial Arts Movie Nights, once it's released and available to own. Judging by what I can see in the trailer, BIRTH OF THE DRAGON appears to have a nice cinematic flair going for it, and Phillip Ng's Lee accent ain't half bad. Here's hoping for good things from this one.

BIRTH OF THE DRAGON is scheduled for an August 25, 2017 release.
