Rebel Wilson reveals she has met with Paul Feig about Ghostbusters 3

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 (can we drop the 3 at this point?) is still gearing up to be an all female reboot/sequel to the iconic comedy series and we have already seen who Bill Murray would cast in the film, but it will really depend on which actresses audiences would pay to see. For instance, PITCH PERFECT actress Rebel Wilson is fairly popular right now. What about her?

Appearing on The Today Show, Wilson was asked by Matt Lauer about the possibility of a role in GHOSTBUSTERS 3. After humming the theme song, Wilson had this to say.

“Look, I have had a meeting, but who knows? They have to look at the script when it’s finished. I would even do that without the money truck. I’d do that for free. I probably shouldn’t say that live on TV.”

A few things that worry me about this comment. First off, the fact that Paul Feig and the executives at Sony are meeting with actresses before the screenplay is even done tells me they have no idea which direction they are going and are looking to see who has any interest. Second, Rebel Wilson doesn’t exactly seem like casting for the movie rather than casting for the audience. It really depends on who else is cast in the film to see if they gel together, but Wilson is a loud and brash personality that doesn’t seem to fit the model of GHOSTBUSTERS as we have come to know and love it.

Again, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 has seemed like a doomed idea since Bill Murray passed on the project. Many people would rather not see another film if it isn’t with the original cast and crew, but it seems that the studio and Dan Aykroyd are convinced it must happen. I guess we will have to wait and see what comes next.
