2014's GODZILLA was a hit at the box office, earning over $500 million at the box office, but there were many who were unimpressed with the film. Gareth Edwards will be back to direct the sequel after he's finished with STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, and screenwriter Max Borenstein recently told Collider that he's currently working on the movie's script.

Borenstein didn't reveal any GODZILLA 2 plot details ("I don’t want to go off book and tell you anything that I’m not allowed to tell you") during his conversation with the site at a TCA event for his Minority Report series, however he did say "The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that that world is established, we can do bigger and even better things." Bornstein went on to say although Edwards is a little busy right now with STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, he's pumped he gets to work with the director again, and they're "really stoked" about doing another movie.

GODZILLA has its flaws and the trailers were a tad misleading, but I still had a fun time with the film, and I'm very interested in seeing what Edwards and company will do with the follow-up. It just sucks that we're going to have to wait so long to check out the sequel; GODZILLA 2 isn't due in theaters until June 8, 2018.
