Godzilla vs Kong Adam Wingard

We're now one step closer to witnessing two of the world's most famous giant monsters face off on the big-screen. THR reports that Adam Wingard has just closed a deal to take the helm of GODZILLA VS. KONG for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment. With movies like YOU'RE NEXT, THE GUEST and BLAIR WITCH under his belt, this monstrous battle royale will undoubtedly be the biggest project Wingard has tackled so far.

It's a little too early to guess how GODZILLA VS. KONG will unfold, beyond the obvious of course, but the film certainly has plenty of writers to help it along the way. A writers room, headed up by Terry Rossio (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN), was set up back in March to figure out the best way to approach the film as well as break down the beats of the story. In addition to Rossio, the GODZILLA VS. KONG writers room includes Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (STAR TREK BEYOND), Lindsey Beer (THE KINGSKILLER CHRONICLES), Cat Vasko (QUEEN OF THE AIR), T.S. Nowlin (THE MAZE RUNNER), Jack Paglen (TRANSCENDENCE) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5). We're not sure who will be credited for the final script, but with Adam Wingard now onboard, I expect that we'll find out before too long. GODZILLA VS. KONG is set for a May 22, 2020 release.

Adam Wingard is apparently a "massive" fan of both the Godzilla and King Kong movies and recently wrapped up production on DEATH NOTE for Netflix. The adaptation of the manga series by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata finds a young man (Nat Wolff) coming across a supernatural notebook which grants him the power to kill any person simply by writing down their name on the pages. DEATH NOTE also stars Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley and Shea Whigham and is set to debut on Netflix on August 25, 2017. Before the two titans throw down in GODZILLA VS. KONG, we'll see Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS on March 22, 2019. The MonsterVerse film (yes, that's what they're calling it) is now in production and stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown.

How do you folks feel about Adam Wingard taking the helm of GODZILLA VS. KONG?
