It's been nearly forty years since John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN was released, a film that defined the slasher genre, spawned an abundance of imitations and launched the career of Jamie Lee Curtis. The simple story, told over the Halloween day and night of 1978 in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois, follows the murderous stalkings of the escaped lunatic Michael Myers. The film has lived on in the way that only true classics can, and while it certainly wasn't the first "slasher" film, it set the blueprint for numerous horror films to come as the 80s were about to begin. A whole slew of sequels followed, none quite as successful or acclaimed as the first, though HALLOWEEN was made for under a million dollars, and thus the profit was incredibly high. Next year, to mark the 40th anniversary, the Halloween franchise returns with the appropriately titled… HALLOWEEN, which will be written by David Gordon Green (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS) and Danny McBride, directed by Green, and will star Jamie Lee Curtis, returning to the role of Laurie Strode.

The franchise is beloved by many, and to date, has now outlasted many of the sprawling franchises that followed in its initial wake back in 1978. So in casting our eyes back to that original classic, as influential and timeless as it has proven to be, what are some of the more glaring Movie Mistakes it has to offer?
