Harry Potter and the Cursed Child announce Broadway opening date

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

It's been announced today that, as of April 22, 2018, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD will be making its Broadway premiere via the Ambassador Theatre Group's Lyric Theatre. Producers Sonia Friedman and Collin Callender have also informed the public that preview performances, casting, and all other details regarding the show will be announced in the coming months.

That being sid, it sounds as if The Lyric is going to need quite the bit of renovations after playing host to Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour, a "Golden age of Hollywood" themed spectacle that follows "the life of a poet who is forced to choose between love and art." After the renovations are complete, and the Harry Potter show moves in, you can expect muggles of all ages to learn every spell in the book in an effort to secure tickets. Speaking of which, tickets will go on sale this fall through the ATG website only, and the details of how you can get your mitts on them will be released soon.

Based on an original new story by world-renowned author J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD is directed by Tiffany, which has already been recognized as the most awarded production in the history of Britain's Olivier Awards. In addtion to having won has won 22 major theater awards in the UK, including the Evening Standard Best Play Award, the show has also taken home nine awards for its excellence including Best New Play and Best Director.

Personally, I have a few friends from across the pond who've already seen the play (some of them multiple times over), and I have it on good authority that it's a "smashing good time". I do have some advice for those of you who are looking to attend the show once it hits the Lyric Theatre, and that is to be vigilant about locking down your tickets. These performances are going to sell like hotcakes and there's no telling what manner of black magic scalpers will use to get their crooked hands on tickets that should in all rights go to fans of the franchise.

I wish you all the best of luck in gaining access to the show, as I'm sure you'd have quite the magical evening ahead of you when you attend the next chapter in the HARRY POTTER saga.

Again, tickets will go on sale this fall through the ATG website only, and details of how and when tickets can be purchased will be released soon.
