After watching HBO’s THE GIRL, starring Toby Jones as the famed director and Sienna Miller as Tippi Dedren, I found the portrayal to be very off putting. In many ways I felt that it soured the director’s reputation (even if it were completely true), which isn’t hard to believe if you’ve seen the film. It’s a powerful, creepy film, which I really enjoyed, but have to say that it makes me look forward to Anthony Hopkins portrayal as the master in HITCHCOCK. It looks much lighter and playful, which could just be indicative of the period in his career. In the long run, I think both films will be complimentary to one another and serve as a back-to-back viewing of the highlights of the director’s career.
Today, we have some new pics from the film, featuring Scarlett Johansson, Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel Timberlake, Toni Collette, and James D’Arcy. Overall, I think this is shaping up to be a really compelling look at the making of PSYCHO and the idiosyncrasies of all involved.
HITCHCOCK is set for a limited release on November 23, 2012 and goes wide on January 10, 2013.
