Exclusive: Details on a number of Disney/Marvel projects, including Captain America 2, Cinderella, The Good Dinosaur, and more!

Let’s just get the SPOILER stuff out of the way. You know the drill. If you’re a spoiler nazi, then this is not the place for you. If you’d like to get some juicy tidbits about some upcoming projects, then you’re in the right place. You’ve been formally warned.

Those still with me, go ahead and strap in and hang on, ‘cause we’ve got some really nice bits of scoopage to share with you on a TON of upcoming projects. Our info comes for a trusted and reliable source from a recent marketing event. Much of what they have to say serves as a confirmation of rumors, while some of the information is all new. Let’s dig in, shall we?

First up, is some news on Disney and Marvel’s slate, starting with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, which our source says is pretty much a sequel to THE AVENGERS and plays the biggest role in leading into THE AVENGERS 2. In addition, the sequel will go more in-depth on Black Widow’s back story and gadgetry (which she barely used in THE AVENGERS or IRON MAN 2). Sounds like the red in her ledger will finally be exposed.

Keeping with the Marvel slate, our source dropped some information on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, once again reiterating that Ronan The Accuser WILL be the film’s lead villain and that Thanos does indeed play a large role in the overall scheme of things. In terms of iconic locations, The Guardians will operate out of their base of operations, called Knowhere, a space station with the ability to teleport throughout the universe. Lastly, our source confirmed that there would be no members of THE AVENGERS featured in the film, but that it does take place in the same time/universe as the current phase of films.

Next up is some more info on BIG HERO 6, the first Marvel/Disney animated film. We already know that it’s based on a fairly obscure comic book, but now we have some names and plot details to go along with it. The lead character, Hiro Hamada, is joined by Wasabi No Ginger, Honey Lemon, Fred, and Baymax, who are trying to stop Hiro’s invention, called “swarm microbots” which fall into the wrong hands. One of the key plot elements is that Hiro’s brother was killed in a mysterious accident.

Okay, onto the non-Marvel Disney pics. First, there’s the live-action CINDERELLA, which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Lilly James as the titular character, Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as the Prince, and Cate Blanchett as Lady Tremaine. That much we already know, but in terms of story, it looks like they’re going a different direction, as CINDERELLA actually meets Prince Charming before the ball and dives deep into her childhood origins, losing her family, and what led to her living with her wicked stepmother. So, very similar to EVER AFTER, the last CINDERELLA retelling on film.

We also have a short, but interesting piece of information on Disney/Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR, from director Bob Peterson (UP). Apparently, the story will revolve around the premise of “What if the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs missed Earth?” The “good” dinosaur in question is named Jacob (pronounced Yacob) and the story follows him and his “pet boy” on an adventure to save their collective worlds. Very interesting concept if you ask me. Feels a bit more like the innovative Pixar of old.

In non-Disney/Marvel news, we’ve also learned that, unfortunately, there will be a Hotel Transylvania 2, which is slated for release on September 25, 2015. In addition, Dreamworks has greenlit a third HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON movie, which is being geared towards a 2016 release.

Okay, that’s a lot of stuff. Take your time. Let it digest, then hit us back with your thoughts below!
