Teaser trailer for Paul Schrader and Bret Easton Ellis’ The Canyons is definitely a tease

Two powerhouse talents, director Paul Schrader (AFFLICTION, LIGHT SLEEPER) and author Bret Easton Ellis (AMERICAN PSYCHO, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION), are currently filming Ellis’ original script for THE CANYONS, starring Lindsay Lohan and male porn star James Deen.  Today, they’ve unveiled a specially shot teaser for the film, which is kind of like a travelogue video of Los Angeles.  Still, it’s well shot and features good use of the song “Coming Down” by the Dum Dum Girls.

Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs…

I’m a big fan of both Schrader and Ellis, having seen or read the majority of thier work.  They have a unique voice for the gritty and seedy side of things, which can sometimes be a nasty head trip, but well worth the price of admission.  There’s definitely some trepidation with the hiring of Lohan and Deen as the leads of the film, but I’m insanely interested to see how the whole thing plays out.

Here’s the synopsis:

It’s not The Hills… THE CANYONS is a contemporary L.A. noir from director Paul Schrader, writer Bret Easton Ellis, and producer Braxton Pope about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their 20’s and how one chance meeting connected to the past unravels all of their lives, resulting in deceit, paranoia, cruel mind games and ultimately violence.

THE CANYONS is currently filming with an eye towards a release in 2013.
