The most important part about these stills from Paul W.S. Anderson’s Pompeii is Kiefer Sutherland

Are we looking forward to Paul W.S. Anderson‘s POMPEII? Do we look forward to most W.S. Anderson flicks? I’m going to be completely and totally honest here– I’m having a hard time saying no to this one– especially after seeing this photo of Kiefer Sutherland as the evil senator.

Yes, I don’t mind seeing the photos of Kit Harington at all. AT ALL. However there are other actors here like Emily Browning and our first look at Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (THOR: THE DARK WORLD, LOST). In the film, “a slave turned gladiator finds himself in a race against time to save his true love, who has been betrothed to a corrupt Roman Senator. As Mount Vesuvius erupts, he must fight to save his beloved as Pompeii crumbles around him.”

The photos came from USA Today who also caught up with Sutherland to discuss his involvement and why he joined on:

“It’s been a long time since I did a movie this big in scope. There are amazing computer effects, but only a third of the set was green screen. The rest was huge props, big sets, elaborate costumes, which I love.”

When comparisons came up with 300 due to the computer-generated backgrounds, the actor quickly brought up the differences:

“I loved that movie, but this isn’t a fantastically stylized film. This is a look at a real society. They had plumbing, running water, culture. Pompeii was at the forefront of modern civilization.”

Sutherland likened the damage to that of a nuclear war, and even though it happened in 79 AD, the actor found the relevancy of the subject matter:

“Pompeii is unbelievably relevant. I’ve seen more natural disasters in the last five years than I have in my entire life. (The film) isn’t a history lesson, but it raises real issues that I think are worth discussing. It could happen again.”
