First Man poster shows Ryan Gosling blasting off; Trailer drops tonight

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

When last Ryan Gosling worked with director Damien Chazelle he danced and crooned his way into our hearts in the stunning LA LA LAND. Next, he will play the icon Neil Armstrong in the movie FIRST MAN from the director, and in order to prepare you for tonight’s trailer, the first poster is here featuring Gosling blasting off into space.

You can check out the poster below, which looks to be pushing the IMAX experience of the movie, which will probably be quite exciting what with all the space travel. Oh, and be sure to click to embiggen.

Here is the official plot synopsis:

On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969.  A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Written by Josh Singer (SPOTLIGHT) the movie also stars Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll and Pablo Schreiber

This a cool poster that I can see being the only one we ever really see for the movie (much like the one of Matt Damon's face for THE MARTIAN). What else do you need in a poster for a movie like this? It's dynamic, has some good color and teases the more epic aspect of the story it will tell. Chazelle has been on phenomenal hot streak between WHIPLASH and LA LA LAND, and the hopes for FIRST MAN couldn't be higher. We will get a better sense of what he has in store tonight when Gosling goes on JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! to drop the trailer. Will he introduce it from space via satellite? I can only expect so.

FIRST MAN arrives in theaters October 12.
