Jeff Loeb confirms Iron Fist Season 2 for 2018, no plans for more Defenders

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

As Marvel fans prepare for the June 22 premiere of LUKE CAGE Season 2, many can't help but wonder about the debut of IRON FIST Season 2 as well as the fate of THE DEFENDERS. Recently while participating in a Marvel Studios AMA session on Reddit, Marvel TV Executive VP Jeff Loeb fielded a series of questions that are bound to put some at ease – while others might find themselves a bit miffed.

When asked if Danny Rand A.K.A. Iron Fist will finally get a proper costume during the sophomore season of his solo show, Loeb responded, “You’ll be very happy with Season 2 coming this year!” The Marvel brassman also confirmed that IRON FIRST Season 2 will make its Netflix debut later this year.

In regard to Marvel's superhero ensemble show, THE DEFENDERS, Loeb confessed that the studio has no plans to continue their adventures by saying that a follow-up season is “Not in the plans right now, but you never know….We loved Defenders and so did our fans. We’ll see about doing it again — as you can guess it messes with the schedules on other shows – so do you want more Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones or another Defenders?”

Personally, I'd take another season of THE DEFENDERS over IRON FIST any day of the week, but that's just me. Thankfully, in addition to the release of LUKE CAGE Season 2 and IRON FIST's sophomore effort, we still have THE PUNISHER Season 2, DAREDEVIL Season 3 and JESSICA JONES Season 3 on the way. With so many characters crossing over into each other's shows, does it really matter if THE DEFENDERS get another go?
