Chadwick Boseman is James Brown in the trailer for Get On Up

Man, it feels like yesterday when I was talking about Chadwick Boseman being cast as James Brown in GET ON UP. Now we have a trailer of the actor in action, and he looks like he’s going to own this role.

The film directed by THE HELP’s Tate Taylor focuses on the story of Brown and his rise to become The Godfather of Soul. I know Brown and his music, but had no clue about half of this stuff shown in the first trailer for the film. I think I recall an incident involving a high speed chase, and I knew he got in trouble with the law a few times. That said, he certainly was a man full of life and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind.

“You wanna go down as the man who killed the funk?”

Synopsis:

In his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award®-nominated blockbuster The Help, Tate Taylor directs 42’s Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get on Up. Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Boseman is joined in the drama by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.

GET ON UP hits theaters on August 1, 2014.
