A Quiet Place producer says they are “not rushing” a sequel

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A QUIET PLACE still stands as the biggest surprise of 2018, earning some of the best reviews of the year, earning over $300 million worldwide off a small budget and solidifying John Krasinski as a director with major talent. In this day and age, the word “sequel” gets thrown around like salmon at a fish market, and A QUIET PLACE got the same treatment. We have no idea when a follow-up could happen, and neither do the filmmakers, as they're taking their time with any new movie.

Producer Andrew Form was speaking with Collider recently during publicity for the movie’s Blu-ray release on July 10, and he was asked about the status of a sequel. He, the other producers and Krasinski are interested in doing another film, but he said they’re in “no rush” to crank it out and are going to take their time.

Oh [Krasinski is] definitely involved. We’re lucky on this one. I’ve had movies where the studio says to you, ‘Here’s your date. Let’s go!’ and on this one we’re not rushing anything, which is amazing. So we’re gonna take our time, we’re gonna figure out where to go, but there is no rush on it and we’re just starting to talk about it. We’re figuring out what everyone’s involvement’s gonna be and what the actual next movie’s gonna be. The first one is so special to us that we really want to take our time with this and not rush anything.

It didn’t take long for sequel talks to start after the movie had a massive opening and remained near the top of the box office for weeks. The writers, Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, said they have ideas for a sequel and that there are “many stories you could tell” in that world.

Studios are often all too quick to pump out a follow-up to a hit movie, and sometimes filmmakers get too stressed and turn out a lackluster sequel amid the speed and pressure. I’m glad that’s not the case here and that everyone involved knows to take their time on A QUIET PLACE 2. This first one was so great and anything less than for another would be a major disappointment. That being said, I do want to see how many aliens Emily Blunt wasted with that shotgun.

A QUIET PLACE is on digital now and on Blu-ray July 10.
