New teaser & pics released for The Crown season two

No matter how many shows with dragons, super people, and telepathic girls come out it seems people will always flock to biographical dramas filled with elegantly dressed people laughing hardily while attending lush parties. Such is the case with THE CROWN, which debuted last year to immense praise and became an instant hit. Now the second season is arriving December 8, and Netflix just unveiled the first look with several new pics, teaser (above) and a brief plot synopsis.

Beginning with soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt, and ending with the downfall of her third Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan after a devastating scandal, the second season bears witness to the end of the age of deference, and ushers in the revolutionary era of the 1960s.

The Crown continues to chronicle the major political and global events that have defined and shaped the second half of the twentieth century – a series that is unprecedented in its scale, ambition and creative vision.

The show won critical acclaim for its production values, writing and leading performances from Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill. During awards season the show raked in 10 Emmy nominations and walked away with two Golden Globes for Best Television Series (Drama) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Drama) for Foy. Foy and Lithgow also won Screen Actors Guild awards for their work, proving that taking on a famous historical figure requires at least one new awards shelf in your home.

I watched the first two episodes of the show, but never continued with the rest. I have no reason for this other than being easily distractible by other fun things, but perhaps I should give it another go before the second season comes out. I’ve also grown tired of all the snickers I get from the neighborhood kids. They know I haven’t seen it.

THE CROWN season two hits Netflix December 8.
