New Pacific Rim Uprising trailer showcases IMAX-worthy spectacle

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

We can sit here all day and talk about the characters and the story, but the whole reason to pay for a ticket to see PACIFIC RIM UPRISING is to watch massive robots bash even bigger monsters. The brand-new trailer embraces that truth and showcases a ton of new adrenaline-pumping moments, teasing just how insane this movie will be. Hopefully, the trailer will play in front of IMAX showings of BLACK PANTHER this weekend, but you shouldn’t have to wait that long, and you can watch it above right now. By the end, you will be bowing down to the blade-wielding Jaeger Saber Athena.

Here is the plot synopsis:

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious’ Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

This movie demands to be seen on a big screen, and this trailer is a perfect reason why. You can’t truly appreciate this level of carnage on a smartphone screen, so waiting for Netflix just isn’t gonna cut it. No, you need to feel the power of the Jeagers as they launch themselves at the Kaijus. You need to feel the seat rock with every punch as if you were the one actually being punched. I know that sounds like it would suck, but trust me, it will be worth it.

PACIFIC RIM UPRISING arrives March 23.
