Weekend Box Office Report: June 29-July 1, 2018

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom chomps into first again!

The reign of the dinosaurs continued this weekend as JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM remained on top at the box office with an estimated $60 million!

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard's return to the treacherous dino domain dropped by nearly 60% from last week's opening, considerably more than the 49% second-weekend dip of the first JURASSIC WORLD in 2015.

The $170 million sequel from director J.A. Bayona (THE IMPOSSIBLE) has a ten-day domestic total of $264.7 million. (By comparison, the original JURASSIC WORLD made a stunning $208.8 million just on its opening weekend.)

The carnivorous creatures have already been stomping around international territories for an additional two weekends and have chewed up $667.6 million for a monstrous worldwide total of $932.3 million.

Staying in second place was Pixar's INCREDIBLES 2 with $45.5 million, leaping to an eyebrow-raising $439.7 million domestic total on its third weekend. Writer-director Brad Bird's super-powered sequel currently has a worldwide total of $646.8 million.

Opening in third place was the sequel SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO with $19 million.

The R-rated spinoff of the 2015 film (again written by Taylor Sheridan) cost a reported $35 million. The original $30 million SICARIO started with $12.1 million on its first wide weekend (it began in limited release) and eventually made $46.8 million domestic and $84.9 million worldwide.

Josh Brolin's third appearance this summer reunites him with Benicio Del Toro while discarding original SICARIO star Emily Blunt, but critics weren't quite as impressed with their second drug-war action-thriller, giving it a 62% average on Rotten Tomatoes (versus the 93% average garnered by the first SICARIO). In fourth place was the new PG-13 comedy UNCLE DREW with an opening of $15 million.

The basketball movie based on Kyrie Irving's Pepsi commercial character, also featuring Lil Rel Howery (GET OUT), Tiffany Haddish, Shaquille O'Neal and a whole lot of old-age makeup, cost a reported $17 million.

Critics were mildly amused but restless in their courtside seats, giving UNCLE DREW an average of 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. Dribble over to the JoBlo review HERE.

Heist comedy OCEAN'S 8 was in fifth place with a title-appropriate $8 million, bringing the Sandra Bullock-fronted sequel a domestic total of $114.7 million. The $70 million sequel has a worldwide total of $209.7 million after four weekends in release.

R-rated comedy TAG was in sixth with $5.6 million, with the $28 million game getting to $40.8 million domestic on its third weekend. DEADPOOL 2 followed in seventh place with $3.4 million, taking the R-rated Ryan Reynolds sequel to $310.3 million domestic and $719 million worldwide.

Opening in eighth place was the Bollywood biopic SANJU with $2.5 million from 356 screens. Low-flying prequel SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY and the Mr. Rogers documentary WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? closed out the list.

Outside the chart, horror movie HEREDITARY and the SUPERFLY remake departed along with Marvel's AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which ultimately collected $672.5 million domestic and $2.034 billion worldwide before it fell out of the Top 10.

Next week has Marvel's shrinking sequel ANT-MAN AND THE WASP and the surreal comedy SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, while THE FIRST PURGE begins on Wednesday, July 4th.
