Gerard Butler’s London Has Fallen pushes back release to March 2016

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

I know what you're thinking, "Kevin, hasn't LONDON HAS FALLEN pushed back its release once already?" Well you'd be correct, LONDON HAS FALLEN was originally set for a October 2, 2015 release but was later pushed back to January 22, 2016 in order to make room for Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN. Now Deadline is reporting that the release of LONDON HAS FALLEN has been pushed back yet again, except this time the shift is due to studio confidence rather than getting out of the way of a larger film.

LONDON HAS FALLEN will now open on the slightly more prestigious date of March 4, 2016. The switch is due to several factors; first off, the film has received a strong reception during research screenings but it also needs more time to complete the VFX. Focus Features president of domestic distribution Jim Orr said "we’re convinced that we have the potential for a successful film with London Has Fallen and we want to give it all the time it needs in its production and put it in the strongest possible release window." OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN was much more entertaining than I suspected and, while I don't think that a sequel is really necessary, I've got my fingers crossed that the Gerard Butler can surprise me once again.

LONDON HAS FALLEN synopsis:

The story begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. However, what starts out as the most protected event on Earth turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable Secret Service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.

LONDON HAS FALLEN will now hit theaters on March 4, 2016.
