Bill Nighy would “love” to return for more Pirates of the Caribbean

**SPOILERS FOR PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 BELOW…SORT OF***

In an effort to invoke some nostalgic feels, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES brought Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan and Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner back into the fold (very, very, very briefly), and though their reunion was sweet, with it came a hint that a tentacle-faced villain could return as well – Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). This led many to assume the character would be back to terrorize the sea in a sequel, but there's no Jones without Nighy. Luckily, the actor is totally on board for more.

During an interview with Empire Nighy unveiled that if they were to bring his character back for more that he would love to be a part of it, but even though his character somewhat appeared in the new movie he has had no communication with the House of Mouse:

I'd love to be in [another Pirates movie].  I'd be there like a shot. But I have not been approached.”

The scene in discussion involves Davy Jones (or his claw-hand perhaps) looming over Will Turner’s bed in the middle of the night, hinting that Jones was watching him sleep like the creepy man-fish he is. This scene came as a shock to everyone watching, but it came as a bigger surprise to Nighy who didn't even know about his appearance until a cab driver mentioned it to him recently :

“The cab driver said, ‘Are you doing the next one?’”, recounts Nighy. “I said, ‘No. I didn't know there was a next one.’ He said, ‘Well, you were in the last one’. I said, ‘No I wasn't’. He said, ‘Yes, you were.’ So that's all I know. You probably know more than I do.”

The folks at Disney seemed to lay it on thick they have the intent of bringing his character back in the future, but the box office may have sunk those chances. The movie made $776 million at the global box office take, which is nothing to scoff at and makes it one of the biggest movies of the summer, but it’s a far cry from the $1.1 billion of the last installment – ON STRANGER TIDES – and is a clear sign the franchise has waned in popularity all around the world.  There has been no word yet on if a sixth film is coming, and perhaps Disney is waiting on home release data to see if people are still shelling out for pirates.

Nighy as Davy Jones has to be one of the best aspects of the PIRATES movies, giving his uniquely designed character an infectious craziness and emotional depth to go along with all the nasty bits on his face. The digital effects used to bring him to life were ahead of their time (and won DEAD MAN’S CHEST an Oscar), and I’d love to see how over 10 years of motion capture advances would make him look now. Plus I love me some Nighy, and if Disney wants my money for PIRATES 6 they better give the man a call and a giant treasure chest of cash.
