Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion & more to enter the race for Cars 3

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I remember watching the trailer for CARS 3 and thinking to myself, "Whoa! Is it just me of is this footage dark as hell?" Then, Disney Pixar lightened things up by introducing us to a host of new and colorful characters and I thought, "Oh, okay. That's a little more like it." I happen to be one of the few people on the planet who doesn't think CARS 2 is all that bad. While it certainly is not one of Pixar's best (not even close), I did enjoy the 007-inspired plot and found the support cast to be quite entertaining.

Today, it's been announced that actors Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK's Lea DeLaria will be lining up to join the race beside stars Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Cristela Alonzo and Armie Hammer. As the film's trailer tells us, CARS 3 centers on Lightning McQueen being forcibly removed from the racing circuit after a terrible accident. In order to get back in the game, McQueen will need to channel his inner Rocky Balboa with the help of an eager, young technician, and a bit of inspiration from his favorite racer, the Fabulous Hudson Hornet.

Check out these cool, new character photos!

Washington will hit the pavement as Natalie Certain, a respected statistical analyst, while Fillion will spin his tires as Sterling, a distinguished business car who runs Rust-eze Racing Center. Additionally, Lea Delaria will gas up as Miss Fritter, a local legend of the Thunder Hollow Speedway demolition derby, and Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will lend his vocals to Cruz Ramirez's (Alonzo) on-board voice command module.

You can plan on waving your checkered flags for when CARS 3 races into theaters on June 16, 2017
