Ewan McGregor talks James Bond, says Trainspotting sequel almost 100% a go

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Just like most people, I've got a few gaps in my cinematic watch-list, one of which is Danny Boyle's TRAINSPOTTING. With a sequel to TRAINSPOTTING likely to arrive sooner rather than later, I'll have to make sure fill that gap by the time TRAINSPOTTING 2 rolls around. Ewan McGregor, who played Renton in the original film, spoke with THR and confirmed that the sequel is just about ready to go.

It's almost 100 percent sure, it depends mostly on scheduling, I think we all want to do it. I'd like more than anything to be working with Danny again and to be making a sequel to such an important film.

Ewan McGregor wouldn't offer any details on the script, but the film is said to be "loosely based on Irvine Welsh's Porno, the literary follow-up that finds the same characters involved in the porn film business about 10 years later." Director Danny Boyle has previsously said that he'd like to shoot the TRAINSPOTTING sequel next summer.

With Daniel Craig making noises that he'd like to be done with James Bond (although there's nothing to indicate that he won't be back for one last film to fill out his contract), there are plenty of options for who should replace him. One of the actors whose name is frequently brought up as a potential James Bond replacement is McGregor himself, who finds the whole idea "quite cool."

I think it would be quite cool to play James Bond. At this stage in my career (being typecast) is not really an issue anymore. Early on, when you start off you don't want your horizons to be narrow, but I think people know I have some kind of width in my work, so I'm really not worried about that anymore.

Ewan McGregor's been a busy fellow with plenty of films on the horizon, but the next we'll see of him will be in JANE GOT A GUN, a western film starring Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Noah Emmerich, and Ewan McGregor. JANE GOT A GUN will be released in February of 2016.

Would you like to see Ewan McGregor as the next James Bond?
