Movie Jail: Updates on Jim Carrey, Robert Rodriguez and Gerard Butler!

This is Movie Jail, a unique maximum security prison that houses some of the worst writers, directors, actors and producers from Hollywood and beyond. Their crimes? The offenses vary from convict to convict but most of these inmates have contributed negatively to the film world to some capacity and his or her misdeeds have covered a long enough period of time that the authorities had to intervene. In each column a defendant is put on trial, arguments are made, and then it is up to YOU, the jury, to decide if the person is guilty or not guilty of crimes against cinema. Their lives are in your hands, dude.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, it's time for another round of Movie Jail Updates, where we take a look at a few actors and filmmakers from previous trials, and based on new evidence, see if you still think the defendant is guilty or not guilty. Let's get right to it!

The Defendants

Jim Carrey has appeared in two movies since his October 2012 trial, and although he was solid in Kick-Ass 2 and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, neither movie did well at the box office, and they received largely negative reviews from critics. Mr. Carrey had a limited amount of screen time in both films, so it's not like we can completely blame him for those movies failures. But the actor has also annoyed fans with his comments about the need for stronger gun laws, and by deciding not to promote Kick-Ass 2 because of the violence in the film. Do you think Mr. Carrey is now guilty and should go to prison, or should we give him one more chance with Dumb and Dumber To?

Since being found not guilty back in October of 2012, Robert Rodriguez has directed two sequels with Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and besides being panned by critics, both movies also bombed at the box office. Mr. Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn series is actually pretty good (and the court also gives him credit for launching his own cable channel), but his feature films as of late have been very disappointing. Should we lock Mr. Rodriguez up because of his recent unimpressive movies, or do you still believe the filmmaker doesn't deserve to go to Movie Jail?

Gerard Butler has only starred in two movies since being found guilty in December of 2012, and although the less said about Movie 43 the better, at least his Olympus Has Fallen was a decent action flick. He also did great voice work in the How to Train Your Dragon sequel, and will appear in the upcoming Alex Proyas movie Gods of Egypt. Do you still believe Mr. Butler is "throwing his 'bad ass' potential away," or do you think it's time for us to release the actor from prison?

LAST WEEK'S VERDICT

Ashley Judd was found GUILTY of all charges in last week's trial, with most jury members saying they haven't cared for many of her recent films. They also said she very rarely makes a movie better by appearing in it, and in general, don't think she's that great of an actress. The court believes the punishment should fit the crime, so instead of tossing her in Movie Jail, we've decided to lock Miss Judd up for a few months in a dolphin tank.
