Bruce Willis has some thoughts on Die Hard: Year One

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Someone is serious about making a sixth DIE HARD movie. Even though each new entry into the series has looked like a worse idea than the one before, that isn’t stopping 20th Century Fox from going back to the well again with John McClane. This time, an origin story is on the table with Len Wiseman involved that would be called DIE HARD: YEAR ONE and… well, I know you’re dying to hear what Bruce Willis thinks about these plans. (Hint: It’s right in line with what you already thought.)

It’s a very good idea, a really tricky idea, and I’m very happy about it. It’s a really cool idea, because it’s the origin story. It’s gonna happen at the beginning of this. We’re going to bounce back and forth.

Now for those of you who might not speak Bruce Willis, allow me to translate for you.

I can’t believe they still want to make these movies, and they want to pay me a lot for them, too. I stopped trying like two sequels ago, but they don’t care. DIE HARD is DIE HARD, so what the hell…? I can do this movie in my sleep… Just don’t scratch my face.

DIE HARD hasn’t been DIE HARD for a long time, and Bruce Willis hasn’t been anything close to resembling John McClane in about that same timeframe. Going origin is infuriating for any fan of the original, considering that film was really the start of the character period… But try to explain that to anyone intent on cashing in on the brand name value of DIE HARD and you’ll wind up walking away from the conversation pissed-off.
