First images drop for Okja from Snowpiercer director Joon-Ho Bong

I don’t know if you guys have heard the news, but 2014’s SNOWPIERCER is pretty f@cking great. I could talk it about it further, but those three words sum it up just fine. It would be an understatement to say director Joon-Ho Bong brought his A-game, and the maestro is looking to replicate that success with his follow-up Netflix film, OKJA, which just dropped some promotion stills of stars Lily Collins and Ahn Seo-hyun.

Have a gander!

Much like his 2006 film, THE HOST, OKJA is a kind of monster movie set in Manhattan that sets Red (Collins) and Mija (Seo-hyun) on a thrilling adventure. But for Joon-Ho, however, this is much more than a typical monster flick, speaking to the film’s Wall Street setting:

Red is part of a group of animal rights activists that figure into the story. On Wall Street, it’s the heart of capitalism. On the surface is a story about an animal, but it’s essentially a story about capitalism.

As for the monster, don’t expect it to go raging through the streets tearing CEOs limb-from-limb:

It’s a very shy and introverted animal. It’s a unique animal that we’ve not seen before.

SNOWPIERCER was one of those gut-punching shocks from 2014, as it came out of nowhere and topped many folks’ end-of-the-year lists. THE HOST is another terrific work from the director, which gives me a lot of hope for this flick. Clearly there’s still a lot more to know about the project, and I’m very intrigued by Joon-Ho’s words on the nature of the beast. Very intrigued, indeed.

The movie will debut on Netflix this summer and also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito, Steven Yeun and more.
