EPISODE 6: Buyout

THE HOOK:

There’s a gaping hole in the Meth distribution market. Walter White has crowned himself king, but this kingdom comes with a cost and those close to Walt are starting to realize a dark change is coming.

THE LOWDOWN:

The aftershock of last week’s final moments is monstrous, but nothing hammer’s in the final coffin nail like taking the kid’s dirt bike apart, piece by agonizing piece, and melting the evidence in acid. And then Todd, clearly not the brightest fella in the world, chooses Jesse of all people to shrug it off with by saying “shit happens”. Yeah, shit’s about to happen to yo face fool. I knew it would hit Jesse like a truck and seeing his eyes when the news broke on TV certainly didn’t help. I wasn’t sure about the whistling end of things though, when Walt tells him to take off for the rest of the afternoon, but I’m assuming he was disgusted by Walt’s carefree attitude.

Poor Mike. Of all of them, he’s the one I feel for the most and I’m sure it’s because of the granddaughter angle as well as the fact that he’s so damn loyal to his crew. Either way, the DEA’s on him and they’re not going anywhere. As Saul later puts it after their little scam to buy time, Hank’s hard on for him only multiplied (that FU message was a nice touch). I like Mike’s plan though, it’s smart for both he and Jesse to get out with a cool five million now that’s the heats back on. Five million dollars is a lot of money, more than they’d ever get at once cooking and far less dangerous to take at this point. You know it won’t end up being that easy (obviously), but it was a nice thought.

Now despite all the tension this episode served up and trust me, it’s a damn buffet, I have to hand to them when it comes to comic relief because that sit down dinner with Walt, Jesse and Skyler was the most hilariously awkward meal I’ve ever witnessed. The look on Jesse’s face is priceless to begin with once Skyler walks through the door, but his ramblings during the meal up until she mentions the affair is just too much, I couldn’t stop laughing or shaking my head.

BREAKING BAD SEASON 5’s sixth episode was tense, highly emotional and fun. It was an odd roller coaster ride off a cliff in the dark because you just never knew what was coming next. I really enjoyed Jesse and Walt’s heart to heart about why he’s so keen on keeping the business running, it was a hard sell, Jesse’s point was right on the money, five million was far more than either of them ever dreamed of making. But aside from ego, blood, sweat, tears and loss, I can see that Walt’s still heavily scarred by his past. Those two really burned him and though I don’t blame him for feeling bitter, taking five million and calling it a day isn’t such a bad cop out. Then again, when you’re the impending king of an empire you helped build and now have the chance to mold into whatever you want, I can see that being a difficult thing to turn your back on. It’s the principle of it all.

DRUG RELATED PROTIP:

Acid can solve even the messiest of situations. And the DEA hate it when you tell them to f*ck off. Even if all you did was write it on paper.

BEST LINE:

Mike wins tonight when he responds to Walt after telling him about the DEA tails he’s had to ditch. Mike, “No Walter, I didn’t drive out to our Meth headquarters with the cops behind me.”

BITCH-O-METER:

Nothing. I’m starting to think Jesse doesn’t like me very much.

COOLEST SCENE:

The coolest (and most painful looking) scene tonight is when Walt MacGyver’s his way out of his imprisonment with a live wire. You can bet that’ll leave a mark.
