Set in Iraq in 2003, Sand Castle follows a group of American soldiers in the early days of the second Gulf War. Bearing witness to the heat and the horror is the inexperienced Private Matt Ocre (Nicholas Hoult), who, together with several fellow soldiers, is ordered to the outskirts of Baqubah to repair a water pumping station damaged by U.S. bombs. But, as Ocre discovers, in an atmosphere where resentment and anger fester, trying to win the hearts and minds of the locals is a task fraught with danger.

Netflix is delivering more original movies these days, and while a good portion of them arguably have that made-for-TV feel (despite them being made independently), the streaming service really seem to upping their game as far as casting power and visual aesthetic goes. I don't think SAND CASTLE is going remain at the top of that heap, so to speak, but it boasts a decent cast that includes the likes of Henry Cavill, Glen Powell and Logan Marshall-Green, to name a few. We'll see how it fares for living room viewing come next month!

SAND CASTLE will hit Netflix on April 21, 2017.
