Witness the painfully unfunny return of Billy Crystal in the trailer for Parental Guidance

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If it wasn’t for the fact that Marisa Tomei is in it, I would have skipped the trailer for PARENTAL GUIDANCE. Damn you, Marisa, and your glorious body!

It has been quite a few years since Billy Crystal starred in a movie. PARENTAL GUIDANCE comes from Walden Media, who are known for their family friendly fare, and looks to be squarely aimed at the Baby Boomer demographic. I cannot think of too many twenty-somethings who will pick this on opening day over DJANGO UNCHAINED.

Check out the trailer for PARENTAL GUIDANCE.

Plot: Old school grandfather Artie, who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend – and not holding your ground – that binds a family together.

Also starring Bette Midler, PARENTAL GUIDANCE was directed by Andy Fickman, who helmed RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE GAME PLAN. I wonder how much better this trailer would have been if The Rock was in it?

PARENTAL GUIDANCE opens on Christmas Day.
