David Fincher in final negotiations to direct World War Z 2

Getting a sequel moving for the 2013 zombie blockbuster, WORLD WAR Z, has been more arduous than actually surviving a zombie apocalypse. But the wait has officially been worth it as Paramount is reportedly very close to signing Oscar-nominee David Fincher to helm the project. Fans of undead hordes and Brad Pitt’s blonde, silken locks may begin rejoicing.

Variety reported last night that Paramount is moving forward with the sequel the acclaimed director expecting to take the reigns after months of courting the filmmaker. Though the director has been hired the film itself has not been officially greenlit, but that’s expected to change soon, with production expected to start at the beginning of 2018.

The sequel to the 2013 zombie-apocalypse flick was originally slated for June this year back when director J.A. Bayona was supposed to begin shooting last year. However, the director left the project and has since taken on JURASSIC WORLD 2. Pitt had been meeting with directors for months before reaching out to Fincher, and news around his potential hiring has been swirling ever since like a delicious, speculation-flavored ice cream cone.

Needless to say I'm getting goosebumps just imagining Fincher's take on flesh-eating carnage. The first film by Marc Forster was a decent disaster movie, but clearly their interested more grounded, and less expensive, approach if they're looking for a man like Fincher to direct. He and Pitt make magic together, including SE7EN, FIGHT CLUB and CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, so I know they can work their voodoo and make a satisfying zombie flick. Zombies get to devour delicious brains, and we get to watch them do it in a great film. Everyone wins!
