Trailer and poster for Blancanieves, a spanish-language 1920’s set Snow White tale

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Until today, I’d never heard of this film, but after seeing the trailer for BLANCANIEVES I am very intrigued.  Set in 1920’s Seville, Spain and using the sport of bullfighting as its central theme, the black-and-white, Spanish-language film looks like an inventive, lyrical journey into the Snow White mythology with a unique twist.  Much like THE ARTIST, this films draws heavily on the Silent Era style with great accuracy.

BLANCANIEVES is Spain’s entry into the Oscars’ Foreign-Language Film category for 2012, having won numerous awards and critical praise already.  The film stars Macarena García as Carmen (Snow White) and Maribdel Verdú as her stepmother Encarna and is directed by Pablo Berger.

Take a look:

The film opened originally in Spain and is currently slated for release in the states on January 18, 2013.
