Journey 2 writers Mark and Brian Gunn to script Timecop reboot

The last time I wrote anything on the TIMECOP reboot was the announcement that they were actually doing it last year. Then I did a Cast This for the character of Max Walker originally played by the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme. The schmoes top three choices included: Scott Adkins, Jason Statham, and Karl Urban. Any of those sound like good picks to you?

Unfortunately, I don’t have any casting news for you today. Instead we have a pair of writers set to pen the script. Mark and Brian Gunn, who wrote JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND will come up with a draft to dazzle us. Can they up the 1994 screenplay written by Mark Verheiden and Mike Richardson? I don’t know. That’s a thing of beauty.

The story set in the near future centers on a time when ”time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) runs into a crooked politician (played by Ron Silver), who uses time travel to further his political career.” How do you replace Ron Silver? HOW? Source close to the project say that it will be tonally similar to Rian Johnson’s LOOPER, but heavy on the big budget end.

You ready for a new TIMECOP?
