Andy Serkis speaks about possible Snoke return for Episode IX

*SPOILERS FOR THE LAST JEDI BELOW*

Going into STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI many fans had theories regarding what they expected to see, especially around Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis). All of those theories were thrown to the wind when, during one of the movie’s biggest moments, Snoke was cut in half by his pupil, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). After that, all notions of who the character was and what his role was in all of this are now useless…or are they?

Serkis recently sat down with Slashfilm to talk about his role as Ulysses Klaue in BLACK PANTHER, and the conversation shifted to LAST JEDI and if Serkis thinks Snoke could come back for EPISODE IX. Serkis obviously couldn’t say for certain but did say anything is possible in the Star Wars universe.

Look, it’s Star Wars, so you never know how life, or whether life can be come back to or not. Whether you can be resuscitated or brought back. I was shocked. Dramatically, it felt absolutely right for that moment in the film, so I didn’t question it. I just think it’s a very, very important scene, so I didn’t question it. But I do, I know it’s left fans feeling like, that they were really searching for something there. And what I’m saying is, who knows?

Serkis did reveal that he has yet to speak with J.J. Abrams, the director of FORCE AWAKENS, and who is doing EPISODE IX after Colin Trevorrow was let go last summer. The odds that Serkis knows something about the movie and Snoke’s involvement (if any) is limited, as surely there are few people in the cast who know the whole story of EPISODE IX. I'm very positive the script is in a massive vault in some sort of underwater lair.

The actor gave his best answer, but he’s speaking about the general nature of Star Wars rather than in some sneaky “I know something you don’t know” kind of way. Anything can happen in Star Wars. They could sew his body back together, he could come back as a force ghost, and there could even be a flashback. The interviewer, Ben Pearson, put forth an interesting theory that perhaps Snoke was powerful enough to use astral projection to put forth a physical version of himself, and it was that version we saw sliced in two. In Star Wars there are endless possibilities. Maybe Snoke has a twin brother, and he was, in fact, the one we saw killed. Poor, Ploke.
