In the 1920s, Danish artist Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) painted her own husband, Einar (Eddie Redmayne), as a lady. When the painting gained popularity, Einar started to change his/her appearance into a female and named himself/herself Lili Elbe. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer in the first trailer for Tom Hooper's THE DANISH GIRL.

Tom Hooper (LES MISERABLES, THE KING'S SPEECH) has quickly made a name for himself by coaxing phenomenal performances out of his actors. Considering last year's Oscar winner for Best Actor, Eddie Redmayne, is headlining this flick, I wouldn't be surprised if a second nomination is in order for the man. To be honest, it was Alicia Vikander's performance in this trailer that really drew my attention. From EX MACHINA to THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. to THE DANISH GIRL, she really seems to effortlessly slip into the guise of these different characters. Coupled with Redmayne, it looks like we'll have something truly compelling on our hands come this November.

THE DANISH GIRL opens in theaters on November 27, 2015.
