The Oscar nominated director of JUNO and UP IN THE AIR, Jason Reitman, will now lend his skills to the small screen in a new series entitled Casual for the Hulu network. Casual will be a ten episode, single-camera, half-hour comedy series that will follow the story of a dysfunctional family consisting of a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister. Together, they will coach each other through the crazy world of dating (on-line and off) while living under one roof and raising a teenager.

Jason Reitman had this to say of the project:

I’ve long looked for the right first step into episodic storytelling. In Zander Lehmann, I have found the perfect collaborator. His writing is hilarious and provocative.

Reitman will direct the premiere episode of Casual and stay on as executive producer. Jason Reitman's last few films (MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN, LABOR DAY) haven't made the waves that his earlier movies had, so perhaps a bit of a cinematic break is in order for the man. In interviews, Reitman is very candid about his work and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, so I have little doubt that he can deliver something great in the future that's on par with the likes of UP IN THE AIR or THANK YOU FOR SMOKING.

Casual will debut on Hulu sometime in 2015.
