New trailer for Cymbeline; a crime and drug filled Shakespeare adaptation

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We have a new CYMBELINE trailer for you tonight, and as we’ve mentioned, if you’re a fan of Sons of Anarchy which is heavily influenced by William Shakespeare's "Hamlet", then you’re likely to enjoy this badass movie. This time, it’s Michael Almereyda’s unique Shakespeare adaptation that’s full of crime, corruption, and no doubt a lot of bad people. CYMBELINE looks to reinvents one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known works and looks to do a great job with an outstanding cast including Ethan Hawke, Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, and Anton Yelchin.

Here is a brief synopsis:

CYMBELINE unfolds as an epic battle between dirty cops and a drug dealing biker gang set in a corruption-riddled 21st century America. CYMBELINE is a fresh take on a universal story of love, betrayal and revenge.

I am definitely intrigued with this take on the Shakespeare play; if it’s anything like Baz Luhrmann’s ROMEO + JULIET count me in. It doesn’t look to have the Luhrmann visuals, but bringing Shakespeare to contemporary America always seems to work for me. CYMBELINE will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will be released in spring 2015.
