Ant-Man and The Wasp will be about the search for Janet van Dyne

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In ANT-MAN, we discovered that Janet van Dyne, mother to Hope (Evangeline Lilly) and wife to Hank (Michael Douglas), was assumed to have died when she shrunk down to the Quantum Realm in order to disarm a Soviet ICBM in flight, but when Scott Land (Paul Rudd) was able to return from the Quantum Realm, it opened up the possibility that Janet could as well.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming ANT-MAN AND THE WASP will deal with the search for Janet van Dyne. Evangeline Lilly elaborated, "Scott entered the Quantum Realm in the first film and came back, which is something they thought was impossible. The question has arisen, ‘Can Janet come back?’ So the entire film, my character is hell-bent on finding a way to get into the Quantum Realm and bring her back." As we know that Janet will be played by Michelle Pfeiffer, it's probably a safe bet to say that they find her. Director Peyton Reed added that it was "really interesting to bring her in and get her up to speed on all the mythology and her place in this world," especially since Pfeiffer hadn't done a comic-book film since BATMAN RETURNS. Entertainment Weekly also released a pair of new images from ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, which you can check out below.

As there needs to be someone to stand in the way of our heroes, Peyton Reed says will the main villain of the film, Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), will prove to be quite the adversary for Scott and Hope. "The Ghost character could be male, female, anything, so it just seemed more interesting to us [to cast a woman]," said Reed. "Ghost’s primary power is the ability to ‘phase,’ which allows Ghost to move through solid matter. She has all sorts of strange versions of that phasing power — it proves quite difficult for Ant-Man and Wasp to deal with."
