Rampage director Brad Peyton to adapt Image Comics series Skyward for Sony

One of the best new indie comic book series of the year, SKYWARD, has been preemptively optioned by Sony for a big screen adaptation. Co-created by writer Joe Henderson with artists Lee Garbett and Antonio Fabela and Simon Bowland on letters, SKYWARD tells the story of how one day gravity on earth suddenly became a fraction of what it is now. Twenty years later, humanity has adapted to its new low-gravity reality. And to Willa Fowler, a woman born just after G-day, it’s…well, it’s pretty awesome, actually. You can fly through the air! I mean, sure, you can also die if you jump too high. So you just don’t jump too high. And maybe don’t stumble into a dangerous plan to bring gravity back that could get you killed.

For all of you "Luciphiles" out there, you may recognize Henderson's name as the co-showrunner of LUCIFER, Fox's serialized send up to Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg's superhatural drama. Henderson is on board to executive produce SKYWARD, with RAMPAGE director Brad Peyton set to helm the low-G sci-fi adventure. Jeff Fierson will also produce.

“Jeff and I are focused on making event films — regardless of budget or scope,” Peyton said. “‘Skyward’ is a big one. We’re very excited to deliver on what an anti-gravity movie should deliver on and be working with Joe Henderson on this.”

This is great news! I'm absolutely loving the SKYWARD comic, right now. It's only three issues deep, thus far, but each and every chapter has been better and more intriguing than the last. Willa is a high-spirited and inquisitive character to follow through the story, and the mystery of what's really happened to the world only becomes more complex with every turn of the page. The artwork is also quite brilliant. Garbett and Febela have truly allowed their talents to take flight with this title. If you're looking for something fresh and fun to read SKYWARD is a great way to go.
