Adam Wingard’s Death Note adaptation moves from Warner Bros. to Netflix

It's not a done deal yet, but according to The Wrap, Netflix is in talks with Warner Bros. to acquire director Adam Wingard's live-action DEATH NOTE movie. This comes on the heels of a recent report that WB is contemplating producing fewer "homegrown" films.

Sources tell the site that movie (which will be rated R) was "nearing the start of production when the studio opted not to move forward" with it, but since Wingard and company have already spent a good amount of time working on the project, Warner Bros. "agreed to let them shop it elsewhere."

It doesn't sound like the move is going to have a huge impact on the film itself. Wingard will still direct the adaptation, and Nat Wolff and The Leftovers' Margaret Qualley are both still set to star, however the site says Netflix is also planning on adding its WAR MACHINE star Keith Stanfield to the DEATH NOTE cast once the deal is finalized.

DEATH NOTE is reportedly eyeing a June production start date, which means that it will probably be released sometime in 2017.
