House of Cards teaser finds Robin Wright celebrating her independence

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Yesterday we as a nation celebrated our independence with fireworks, hot dogs, booze and sales on pants. But in the new teaser for the sixth and final season of HOUSE OF CARDS Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) celebrates her own independence with a special message for the rest of us citizens. As should come as no shocker she looks born to sit in that chair.

The tease was posted yesterday morning and features a short and sweet message from Underwood, saying, “Happy Independence Day…to me.” Then “#MyTurn” pops up on screen, and thus, the mic was dropped.

The final season of the show finds Wright’s character usurping her husband Frank Underwood’s (Kevin Spacey) seat as president of the United States after she said the ominous words “My turn,” at the end of season five. Her words in the teaser not only mark the start of reign, but also signal her independence from Frank after being relegated to the background for years.

As we all know, this new season went through a production upheaval when Spacey was accused of multiple acts of sexual misconduct, leading to his firing from the show. As a result, the primary focus of the show is now on Claire as she assumes the role of president, with no word yet on how Spacey’s absence will be addressed.

The final season concluded production back in late May, so it's understandable why we haven't seen any footage yet. We got some photos last month but so far we have seen very little from the final season. Given how much the show had to shift after the Spacey revelations I'm interested in seeing how this finale ends things with Claire as the only Underwood around. I suspect she will do a fine job with all the fourth wall breaking.

The final season of HOUSE OF CARDS arrives this year.
