Fox is bringing the Poltergeist remake to theaters 2 months early

About this time last month we brought you the trailer for Gil Kenan's POLTERGEIST remake. I think it's safe to say that the bulk of you thought it looked mostly like the original movie about family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. If you're one of the brave few who are willing to check out this tale in theaters, then I have some good news for you! Twentieth Century Fox has decided to shift the release date forward a full 2 months and bring this bad boy out on May 22nd, where it will be opening alongside Brad Bird's TOMORROWLAND.

Now, I know what you're going to say: "Wait, Sean! Doesn't Paul Feig's SPY, which is also being distributed by Fox, set to come out on the same day?!?" Keen observation! That it DID, as SPY has now been moved back a few weeks to June 5, where it will open against ENTOURAGE and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 3, so plan accordingly! It's a ballsy move to open POLTERGEIST in a month that some serious movies hit theaters (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD) but I suppose they're hoping audiences will be craving something more horrific during the latter weeks of May. Horrific, indeed.

POLTERGEIST now opens on May 22, 2015.
