Farrell & Kidman lead unsettling Killing of a Sacred Deer trailer

Last year Greek writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos brought us one of the darkest and most absurd comedies in recent memory with THE LOBSTER. The movie was a critical darling and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Now Lanthimos is back, but this time he’s ditching the unique laughs for psychological terror with THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER, which we now have the first trailer for. The films has Colin Farrell reteaming with his LOBSTER director and working alongside Nicole Kidman in what is shaping up to be a profoundly strange and messed up experience.

DEER doesn't look like it will be going in for those big scares, instead favoring an unnerving, uneasy sense of paranoia. If that's true then the nail was certainly hit right on the head, because I feel like I need a shower after watching that trailer. There's something so inexplicably unsettling about watching Farrell wheel people around the hospital and seeing people completely lose the use of their legs, not to mention Barry Keoghan (DUNKIRK) as that creepy teenager. I think I may need a few drinks before seeing this.

THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER hits theaters October 27.
